Mission San Jose Rotary is proud to once again help sponsor the 12th annual Shop with a Cop program in Fremont, CA.
The Fremont Police Department in cooperation with the Fremont Police Officers Association, Human Services Department, Target Stores, the Mission San Jose Rotary, Fremont Bank and other local businesses sponsor the Annual Shop with a Cop event each December. Now in it’s 12th year, it has proven to be a huge success by the children involved, their parents, and the community of Fremont. The event is funded solely by community donations.
How does it work?
The program invites 20 children identified by the Human Services Department and gives them the opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for their family members during a shopping spree. The children are chauffeured to and from school by a Fremont Police Officer. Once they arrive at Target, they are escorted by the Police Officer and a special helper from the store to purchase their gifts. They are treated to planned activities, games, and lunch. The gifts the children purchase for their family members are wrapped and delivered to the Family Resource Center to be picked up by the family later in the day. Gifts for the children are purchased and wrapped ahead of time and picked up by the family together with the other gifts.
